Austria’s 3×3 basketball players only lost out in the final of the Olympic qualifying tournament in Hong Kong for the only ticket available there.
Nico Kaltenbrunner, Enis Murati, Matthias Linortner and Fabio Söhnel lost to Olympic champion Latvia 14:19 on Sunday. The ÖBV team still has one last chance in Debrecen in mid-May. In Hungary, 16 teams are competing for three Olympic tickets.
In Hong Kong, Söhnel brought Austria into the final in the semi-final against New Zealand with two free throws in the final second to make it 20:18.
In the match for tournament victory, the Austrians had no chance against the Latvians (15:14 in the semi-final against the Netherlands) and were ten points behind in the early stages.
In the final on Sunday, the ÖBV team will face Olympic champions Latvia or the Netherlands.
