The top favorite is out: Alexander Zverev was already eliminated in the quarterfinals of the ATP tennis tournament in Munich. The 26-year-old from Hamburg looked nervous and nervous against Chilean Cristian Garin.

Alexander Zverev succeeded little, Cristian Garin quite a lot: And so it happened that Alexander Zverev, the top seed in Munich, clearly lost his quarter-final match against the Chilean in two sets. After 2:00 hours, Garin’s strong first serve sealed the 6:4, 6:4 success. In the semi-finals (live in the stream on BR24Sport in the ARD media library) he will now face Taylor Fritz (USA).

Zverev particularly struggled with the fact that the match was not interrupted despite the onset of rain and difficult field conditions: “It has been raining non-stop for three hours. And there is not a second thought about interrupting it,” he complained. When the score was 2:4, the Olympic champion added: “I’ll give up the next two games and then I’ll be done here. That’s really ridiculous. I’m slipping with every step I take.”

However, two days ago he benefited from a similar decision in the game against Yurij Rodionov.

Taylor Fritz, as expected, in the semifinals

Previously, Taylor Fritz was the first player to reach the semi-finals. The number three seeded American beat Briton Jack Draper 4:6, 6:3, 7:6 (7:1) and, like last year, is in the semi-finals of the tournament at Munich’s Aumeister. After 2:15 hours of an even duel, the 26-year-old converted his first match point.

Defending champion Holger Rune is also one round further and in the semi-finals: The Dane lived up to his role as favorite in the game against Marc-Andrea Hüsler from Switzerland and therefore still has a chance of a title hat-trick – the 20-year-old had celebrated at Aumeisterweg in 2022 and 2023 .
