Asturian Athletes Shine in Rhythmic Gymnastics and Judo Championships in Madrid

Success of the athletes from the Caudal region in the rhythmic gymnastics and judo championships held in Madrid. The Asturian cadet rhythmic gymnastics champion, Daniela Magalhaes Fernández, ranked fifth in the Spanish championship and brought a diploma for Mieres. Magalhaes, from Mierá who belongs to the Gijón Stroke team, had won the gold medal in the cadet category in February as champion of Asturias Base.

The judoka with Lenense roots, Alonso Barbero Fandiño, has also obtained a brilliant classification in Madrid, after becoming runner-up in judo in the regional championships of the Community of Madrid. The competition brought together the young talents of this sport.

Barbero competed in the juvenile category, in the section of less than 46 kilos, a section in which he won the silver medal. He is part of the Madrid Judoclub, where he currently resides after his parents moved there for work reasons.

Alonso Barbero started judo when he was only four years old and has a blue belt. Despite his youth, his achievements already include podiums and successful classifications in promotion tournaments. Recently, he won the gold medal in Zone II of Madrid.

Both judo and rhythmic gymnastics are two sports disciplines with deep roots in the Cuencas and have teams that have achieved numerous successes.
