As a 9-year-old RSCA talent, El Khannouss performed magic with Lavia and Sadiki: “I still remember that action”

Not only today does Genk goldcrest Bilal El Khannouss perform magic on a football field. The Belgian Moroccan was already able to make jaws drop in the U9. Extra Time dug up images of El Khannouss among the youth of Anderlecht, where he shone alongside Roméo Lavia and Noah Sadiki.

Bilal El Khannouss received his youth training in Anderlecht, but left the Brussels nest at the age of fourteen when he had fewer playing opportunities. “A painful story,” said Anderlecht fan Sam Kerkhofs at the table.

The talented midfielder moved to Racing Genk, where he made his breakthrough in the first team in recent seasons. “I made the choice to come to Genk with the U15s. I had good conversations with Koen Daerden and Roland Breugelmans,” El Khannouss looks back.

“I thought it was a nice step, because I could step out of my comfort zone. It was not always easy, not even for my family, because I ended up at boarding school. They were difficult times, but today I am rewarded for it.”

The editors of Extra Time were able to dig up images of El Khannouss with the U9 of Anderlecht during a youth tournament in Breda. He was on the field with contemporaries Roméo Lavia and Noah Sadiki.

“Look Sadiki, he couldn’t score!” El Khannouss laughs when he sees the images. His eyes sparkle again when he scores a wonderful goal. “I still remember that action.”
