Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech won his round of 16 against his compatriot Hugo Gaston in three sets (6-7 [6], 6-4, 7-5). The battle was tough between the two Tricolores on the clay court of Bucharest (Romania). Winner 8-6 in the tie-break in the first set, Hugo Gaston (23 years old, 96th) failed to maintain the rhythm, suffering from the power of the Varois on serve: 11 aces for Rinderknech (28 years old, 79th).
Aggressive, he converted 47% of his returns on his opponent’s second serves. A victory which allows him to beat Gaston for the first time in three matches. He will face Chilean Alejandro Tabilo, seeded No. 4, in the next round on Thursday.
