Arón Canet scores his second pole of the season in Moto2

The Spanish Aaron Canet (Kalex) added his second ‘pole position’ of the season and ninth in the Moto2 category by being the fastest in the classification of the Grand Prix of the Americas of the category at the COTA circuit in Austin.

Canet, who was already the fastest in training in Qatar, repeated the result in Austin, despite the fact that Throughout the weekend the fastest had been Fermín Aldeguerwho had to settle for second position and with Sergio García Dols (Boscoscuro), for the second time in his sporting career on the front line, third.

The Italian Celestino Vietti (Kalex) was the first of the initial classification to set a reference time, seconded by the Brazilian Diogo Moreira (Kalex), who had to undergo surgery before traveling to the United States to solve his ‘compartment syndrome’ problems in his right arm.

With them, the Spanish were also in positions to qualify. Albert Arenas (Kalex) and Jaume Masiá (Kalex), who also underwent the same surgical procedure as the Brazilian not many days ago and for which he still felt some discomfort.

Despite these inconveniences, Jaume Masiá knew how to take advantage of his opportunity to improve and climb to second position, with Albert Arenas also surpassing Diogo Moreira, who finished fourth despite the attempts of the Thai Somkiat Chantra (Kalex) to overtake him, although by barely nine thousandths of a second he was unable to achieve his goal.

Be Guevara (Kalex) finished twenty-third, with Xavier Artigas (Kalex) twenty-sixth and Alex Writes (Kalex), twenty-eighth.

Arón Canet was the first of the fastest drivers to set a reference record (2:08.013) while the Italians Celestino Vietti first and Tony Arbolino after, they went downhill and greatly affected their performance for the final classification.

Canet defeated the Belgian Barry Baltus (Kalex), whom he relegated to second place, ahead of the Spaniards Fermín Aldeguer and Albert Arenas, although there was still effective session time for the situation to change greatly.

And, in that last part of the session the surprise came with the record of Sergio García Dols (Boscoscuro) with 2:07.819, which could have given him his first pole position in Moto2, but Fermín Aldeguer snatched that privilege from him shortly after by lapping in 2:07.740, just 79 thousandths faster, but what could have been his sixth pole position in the category, remained a mere attempt when he succumbed to the pace of Arón Canet.

He world leader managed to beat Aldeguer by setting a time of 2:07.631 that gave him the ninth pole position in Moto2 and the fourteenth of his racing career, with Sergio García Dols third, in an entirely Spanish front line.

The Spaniards Albert Arenas and Marcos Ramírez finished in the second, with the American Joe Roberts (Kalex), among them.

In the third line two other Spaniards, Alonso Lopez (Boscoscuro) and Manuel Gonzalez (Kalex), with Italian Dennis Foggia (Kalex) ahead of them. The fourth went to the Dutchman Bo Bendsneyder (Kalex), the Italian Tony Arbolino (Kalex) and the Belgian Barry Baltus (Kalex).

The Spanish Jeremy Alcoba (Kalex), the British Jake Dixon and the Italian Celestino Vietti will occupy the fifth, with Diogo Moreira, Ai Ogura and Jaume Masiá on the sixth line of the starting lineup.
