Gaaei has recovered well from weeks full of disappointment and frustration in recent weeks. In the away game against AZ, the Dane was painfully substituted for the second time this season after half an hour of play, after which he was briefly left out of the Ajax selection and took part in a Jong Ajax match. Mentally it was tough for the right back, who now wants to look to the future with good hope. He hopes to silence critics.

“I believe that I have the qualities to show everyone that they are wrong,” Gaaei refers to the supporters, journalists and former football players who had already written him off given his first months in Amsterdam: “If things don’t go well, everyone says that you are a bad player and should not play, but if you play well then you are the best in the world. I just focus on my teammates, the staff, my friends and my family,” the defender concludes.
