Ansons and Indrašis join the Latvian hockey team

Forwards Raivis Ansons and Miks Indrašis have joined the training camp of the Latvian men’s hockey team, reports the Latvian Hockey Federation (LHF).

As you know, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton “Penguins” represented by Anson lost to the Allentown “Lehigh Valley Phantoms” 0-2 in the first round of the American Hockey League (AHL) playoffs, or the Calder Cup, in the series to two victories.

The Latvian forward scored two goals and five assists in 34 games in the AHL this season, and Ansons also played eight games in the ECHL team Wheeler Nailers, scoring two goals and an assist.

Meanwhile, Indrašis and defender Kārlis Čukste triumphed last week with Jävle’s “Brynas” in Sweden’s second strongest league, helping the team to return to the top league, or SHL.

Indrašis managed to collect three goals and nine assists in 13 play-off matches, but in the regular championship, the Latvian striker excelled in 52 games with 26+32 and a positive efficiency of +27.

At the beginning of the training camp, the Latvian hockey players played two test matches with Austria, celebrating a 3-2 victory in the shootouts in both games, but last week the Latvians lost twice to the Finns with a score of 2-3. This week, the Latvians met Switzerland twice on the road, losing to the hosts with 0:4 and 1:5.

The Latvian national team is scheduled to play six test matches at home and two away this spring. On May 3 and 4, the Latvians will meet Norway at home.
