Angelique Kerber Excited for Return to German Team at Billie Jean King Cup

Three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber is looking forward to her return to the German team at the Billie Jean King Cup.

“For me, this is a great honor. We face a difficult task against Brazil. But I hope that I can help the team with my experience, on and off the pitch,” said Kerber in an interview with her sponsor Porsche.

The Kiel native is back in the German Tennis Association (DTB) squad for the first time after her baby break.

In the qualifying round in Sao Paulo on Friday and Saturday, Kerber is seen as a beacon of hope for team boss Rainer Schüttler’s team – even if the former world number one has shown inconsistent performances since her comeback.

“Before this step, it was of course clear to me that I would have to be patient and that I would need some time after this long break. But I am quite satisfied. Things are going better every day,” said Kerber, who has so far only reached the round of 16 in Indian Wells was able to convince at the beginning of March.

In Brazil, she and the DTB team not only want to make it clear that they will take part in the finals in Seville, but also gain momentum for the strong WTA tournament in Stuttgart afterwards. She no longer puts pressure on herself after the birth of her daughter Liana, who is not traveling with her to Sao Paulo.

“I still love tennis, but now I am first and foremost a mother, with all my heart and great joy,” emphasized Kerber: “There is a little person in my life who is much more important than tennis. That makes it easier , being patient.”
