Almere City eyeing possible successor for Alex Pastoor: Could Ajax’s Hedwiges Maduro be the answer?

Although it has not yet been confirmed that Alex Pastoor will leave Almere City, the club is already looking into a possible successor. One of the names mentioned in Almere is that of Ajax assistant Hedwiges Maduro.

Almere hopes to provide clarity next week about Pastoor’s expiring contract, but has already thrown out lines to candidates, because there is a chance that Pastoor will announce his departure. For example, discussions were held with Rick Kruys, who is also high on the list at sc Heerenveen, but Maduro’s name is also mentioned frequently at Almere.

Maduro, who took the opposite path last summer, besides Almere also has options to continue at Ajax. The club sees him as the successor to Dave Vos at Jong Ajax. Maduro also led a match of the promising team on Monday evening, as part of his UEFA Pro training, which he hopes to complete in May. Only with the highest coaching diploma can Maduro work as a head coach in professional football.

Maduro came to Ajax last summer to become assistant coach to Maurice Steijn. When the coach left Amsterdam, the former midfielder briefly became interim coach of the Amsterdam team, and then resumed his role as assistant next to John van ‘t Schip. His contract runs until the summer of 2026.
