The versatile New Zealand three-quarter will return to Dublin in December 2024, where his family has ties.

A huge blow from Leinster on the transfer market! The Irish province has just announced this Monday the signing of versatile All Blacks three-quarterback Jordie Barrett for one season. The 27-year-old, who currently plays for the Wellington Hurricanes, has signed up for a year, he will join Dublin in December 2024, until the end of the 2024-2025 season. He had a clause in his contract with the Kiwi Federation (NZRU) allowing him to freelance overseas. “This is going to be a great place for me to develop as a rugby player in a different environment where I will learn so many different things”said the Kiwi in a press release.

His father Kevin moved to Ireland in 2000 with his whole family, when he played for Athlone and worked on a farm at the same time. “Ireland is a special place for the Barrett family. We have so many great family connections in Oldcastle, County Meath and across Dublinconfirms Jordie Barrett. Having the opportunity to go back and meet family, friends and connections made twenty years ago is pretty cool. (…) The reality when you are a professional athlete is that you only have a small window to have these opportunities and I would love to be sitting there in twenty or thirty years with my children or grandchildren , knowing that I left nothing to chance, and I took advantage of this opportunity to improve myself.

Jordie Barrett, brother of international brothers Beauden (fly/back) and Scott (second row), played 57 matches for New Zealand and scored 24 tries. He can play in the center, at the back or on the wing. It was in the position of first center that he imposed his power (1.96 m for 102 kg) among the All Blacks, finalists of the last World Cup in France. His arrival is a major reinforcement for Leinster, who struck a major blow this weekend by eliminating La Rochelle in the quarter-finals of the Champions Cup. The Irish – who have also signed South African second row RG Snyman – are aiming for a fifth title in the competition.
