Alexander Zverev on Monday in Munich

By Jens Huiber from Munich

Everything has its limits, even at the BMW Open in Munich. The press rounds on Sunday with Dominic Thiem and those on Monday with the duo Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz were well attended. But not so good that a chat in the VIP area would be prohibited per se due to the spatial capacity.

Things were a little different with Alexander Zverev. The two-time title holder in Munich, in first place this year, was announced at short notice to be in the press center shortly after half past two. Which led to hectic activity, especially among those who wanted to capture the golden words of the golden boy (quote: BILD) from Tokyo 2021 on film. Which are not so few: there are, for example, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Sky, also ran.de.

Zverev on Monday with two training sessions

Zverev had trained in the dry (and in pink) that morning, and brother Mischa had already swung a towel around his shoulders. You never know. The German number one will not have been shocked by the drop in temperature in Munich – Zverev has been a regular at the MTTC Iphitos for years. As a 16-year-old, he received a wildcard from tournament director Patrik Kühnen.

Zverev came to Munich on Sunday evening with a place in the final in Monte Carlo alongside Marcelo Melo in his luggage. Not the result he wanted. In the singles it was already over in the round of 16 against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Speaking of the end: nothing happened with the press event. Alexander Zverev preferred to have another training session with Marcelo Melo. But even there, places on the edge of the practice court have become tight. Especially on Kids’ Day in Munich.
