Alejandra Valencia from Sonora Competing for Three Gold Medals in Pan American Archery Championship

Alejandra Valencia from Sonora will compete for three gold medals in the Pan American Archery Championship that is being held in Medellín, Colombia, after this Friday she managed to advance to the finals of the Individual and Mixed Team modalities.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic medalist, who showed why she led the women’s recurve bow elimination round, will face the American Casey Kaufhold in the Individual final, after winning her duels in the rounds of 16, round of 16, quarters and semifinals.

Being the best in score – with 668, to even set a record for the continental event – she was exempt from the 32nd round, so, already on Friday, she defeated the Panamanian Emma Durán in the 16th round (7-1) and in the round of 16 to the Colombian Maira Sepúlveda (6-2).

Quarter finals

Already in the quarterfinals she beat Canadian Kristine Esebua (6-4) and in the semifinals she also beat Canada’s goalkeeper, Chenier Virgine (6-0). Meanwhile, Kaufhold secured the other ticket to the final after beating the Mexican Ana Paula Vázquez (7-1), who will have to fight for the bronze.

In Mixed Teams, Valencia Trujillo, alongside Matías Grande, will also seek the golden crown, in this case against Brazil, since today they defeated Jamaica (6-0), Chile (6-2) and Canada (6- 2), after drawing the first “bye” round.

On Thursday the Aztec women’s recurve bow team (Alejandra Valencia, Ángela Ruiz and Ana Paula Vázquez) managed to place themselves in the final, by winning over Puerto Rico and Brazil; Their rival will be the United States, with whom they will collide on Sunday on the final day of the Medellín 2024 Pan American Archery Championship.
