Albert Suárez will make his return to the Major Leagues with the Baltimore Orioles. Suárez received the call from Triple A and will make his start against the Minnesota Twins and his compatriot Pablo López.

“We selected Albert Suárez from Triple-A Norfolk. He will wear number 49 and start today’s game (vs. the Twins),” the Orioles reported.

For Suárez this will be his first start in the Major Leagues since 2016 and his first appearance in six years. Albert Suárez last pitched on September 26, 2017 with the San Francisco Giants.

Albert Suárez and the road back to the Major Leagues

Albert Suárez has not had an easy return to Las Mayores. After his last performance with the Giants, the right-hander was in the LVBP with Leones and went to the Japan League.

In Japan, Suárez was with the Yakult Swallows for three seasons. He then spent two seasons with the Samsung Lions in the Korean Baseball League (KBO).

In 2023, he returned to Venezuela with the Leones del Caracas and left a good sign that he had to show in the Major Leagues.

The right-hander was in Spring Training as a guest and earned a Minor League contract.

Now, six years after spending time in Japan and South Korea, Suárez returns to the Majors with the Baltimore Orioles.

Suárez will wear number 49. This number was last worn by pitcher Josh Lester in 2023.

The pitcher will be the second Venezuelan to wear this number in Baltimore after Darwin Cubillán used it in the 2004 season.

Albert Suárez will be the 14th Venezuelan pitcher to pitch with Baltimore. Four pitchers have started as starters: Víctor Moreno, Freddy García, Oswaldo Peraza and Omar Daal.
