For this final day of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine championships, in Women’s Regional 2, AL Castillonnès Basket closed at home with the reception of Mourenx, the leader of the group. A prestigious meeting for two teams assured of their future, in Pre-National for the Béarnaises, in Regional 2 for the Lot-et-Garonnaises.
Promoted this season to this level, Anthinéa Beguer’s teammates once again proved that their fourth place was in no way usurped by overcoming Mourenx, at the end of an extremely competitive match (52-50). A superb performance to end this championship before receiving the GAB on May 7 for the semi-finals of the departmental cup.

President Bazzoli’s players, who only aimed to maintain this season, were perfectly successful in their endeavor, crowning a season which saw the club with exclusively female teams achieve other objectives such as that of setting up a second team which is evolving at the departmental level.
“It’s a great season which ends with quite a bit of success and a superb fourth place,” noted Philippe Bazzoli, the president of Castillonnès. We are happy even if with a little success, we could have grabbed second place in the group. We now know that we are at the level and we will continue to work for next season and see how we can further progress. Then we’ll see how next season goes. Besides that, we continue to work with our young people because to exist, we have no other choice than to train our players. We are so far from everything that we can almost only count on the girls from the village. Bringing in girls from outside was never really our thing and when we tried, it wasn’t a success. I think that within two seasons, a few young people who are still in training should be able to play a role in this senior team. »
