Georges Mikautadze’s interview on French television has caused indignant reactions among Ajax fans. The loanee, who will play for FC Metz from the winter, said on Friday evening that he had not yet heard anything from his actual employer.

Mikautadze responded briefly on Friday after FC Metz’s victory over RC Lens (2-1) about the contact he has with Ajax. The 23-year-old attacker says he has not heard from his Amsterdam employer since he returned to Ligue 1.

Mikautadze’s appearance at Prime Video leads to indignant reactions among Ajax fans. The Amsterdam team actually appointed someone to maintain contact with rented players.

Last summer Ajax introduced the new position of ‘loan coach’, which has since been held by Michel Kreek. He is involved in the guidance of rented players and contact with the renting clubs.

‘Important function’

Kreek was appointed last year by Sven Mislintat, who created the position. “This new position is important,” said the now departed German. “With Michel we now have a permanent contact person who closely follows the players from Ajax and stays in touch with both the clubs and the players.”

“Where is Kreek when you need him?” is what the Ajax fans wonder on X. “Kreek has already left Ajax apparently?”, someone else responds. Yet someone else is curious about how Kreek works. “What structure does he use? This story from Mikautadze sounds as if nothing has changed regarding loaned players.”

Mikautadze is in top form at Metz. The Ajax loanee scored two goals in the home game against Lens on Friday evening. Mikautadze, who also scored twice against Marco Bizot’s Stade Brest last weekend, now has nine Ligue 1 goals this season.

Metz has the option to take over Mikautadze permanently after this season, although it is questionable whether the club can and wants to meet the purchase price of reportedly ten million euros. Mikautadze is now stuck in Amsterdam until mid-2028.
