Afores have capital gains of 68,307 million pesos in the first quarter – El Sol de México

At the end of the first quarter of the year, the Retirement Fund Administrators (Afores) accumulated capital gains of around 68,307 million pesos, according to figures from the National Commission of the Retirement Savings System (Consar).

According to the regulator’s data, in just the third month of the year, workers’ resources reached capital gains of 7,870 million pesos.

What are capital gains?

Capital gains are the gain in value of an asset as a result of movements in financial markets.

According to Consar, the amount of capital gains is different for each worker and depends mainly on some elements such as the selected administrator, age of the beneficiary or whether they make voluntary contributions to their individual account.

The positive figures recorded by the Afores occur in the midst of the approval of the Welfare Pension Fund, which seeks to increase the amount of the pension that workers will receive at the end of their working life.

The resources will come from the 2.2 million inactive retirement savings and housing accounts, of people aged 70 in the case of IMSS and 75 years old for ISSSTE workers.

When considering the last 12 months, the Afores have accumulated 438,922 million pesos in capital gains for the more than 74 million accounts that are managed.

Unemployment withdrawals from the Afore remain on the rise

On the other hand, Consar headed by Julio César Cervantes, announced that between January and March 7,421 million pesos were withdrawn from the administrators due to unemployment.

The amount represented an increase of 30.3 percent compared to the same period last year.
