Adam Peters is armed with a bounty of selections during the 2024 NFL Draft. The Washington Commanders have no fewer than six picks in the top 100 and nine in total. This is thanks in no small part to trades involving Sam Howell, Chase Young, and Montez Sweat – something that puts the new general manager in a better position than most when the all-important event arrives.
Most of the speculation centers on which quarterback the Commanders will take at No. 2 overall. But something that separates good drafts from dismal ones is finding value and striking with conviction.
Peters is experienced in draft war rooms throughout his time in the league. He’s a purposeful character who’s completely changed how the football operation is being run. Hopes are high that this trend continues when it’s time for the Commanders to select their next batch of college recruits.
With this in mind, here are seven potential heists the Commanders could make during the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Washington Commanders might not have the biggest need at the defensive tackle position after Jonathan Allen decided to stick around. He’ll continue his productive tandem alongside Daron Payne, with Phidarian Mathis and John Ridgeway occupying the primary backup positions heading into the 2024 NFL Draft.
That said, general manager Adam Peters would be wise not to rest on his laurels. If an opportunity arises to strengthen depth and increase competition, those in power should pull the trigger.
The Commanders haven’t been shy in selecting Alabama defensive linemen in recent years. Justin Eboigbe is another intriguing possibility thanks to his run-stopping prowess and ability to create disruption consistently. He’s also got the versatility to line up inside in a 4-3 scheme or as a 3-4 defensive end. This would be useful as part of Dan Quinn and Joe Whitt Jr.’s versatile system.
Adding more pass-rushing moves to Eboigbe’s arsenal is only going to help his cause. This could make him a viable Day 3 target with key rotational upside.
