As of: April 3, 2024 7:35 p.m

The German professional cyclist Lennard Kämna was taken to hospital after a traffic accident during a training ride in Tenerife.

His Bora-hansgrohe team announced this on Wednesday afternoon (April 3, 2024). “Lennard is approachable and can move everything. But there has already been a real impact. Luckily there is no danger to his life,” said team boss Ralph Denk to Bild.

“The crash was apparently not his fault. He collided with a car; according to my information, it happened while turning,” added Denk. Further information will be available on Thursday, both on Kämna’s state of health and the course of the accident. Denk wanted to speak to the Spanish police first.

Attack planned at the Giro

The 27-year-old Kämna is preparing for the big tours in spring and summer in Tenerife. The German hopeful has planned to start at the Giro d’Italia (from May 4th) and the Tour de France (from June 29th).

His next race was supposed to be the Tour of the Alps (April 15-19). Kämna wanted to make another attack on the overall classification at the Giro. Last year he came ninth.
