A Tribute to a Judo Legend: Remembering a Lifetime of Dedication

His CV is long. Group coordinator of the South-West group and league chairman, referee, 23 years of which were international, examination officer for the DJB and 15 years of president of the Rheinhessen Judo Association. He served as a referee at 17 European Championships and four World Championships and received the highest awards during his judo years. Already in 1982 he received the gold badge of honor from the DJB, as well as in the state associations of Hesse, Rhineland and Saarland, and in 1994 he became honorary president of the Rhineland Judo Association. He was honored with the 8th Dan in 1996 for his dedicated life’s work in judo and received the Federal Cross of Merit with Ribbon in 1998. In total he was closely associated with judo for 76 years.

“His passion was the sport of judo,” is the headline of the JC Wiesbaden condolence message on its website.

A week after his 90th birthday, on March 11, 2024, his judo heart stopped beating.

The German judo sport says goodbye with deep sadness and will gratefully honor his sporting life’s work. Our thoughts are with his family and close friends.
