Lier –

The sixth edition of ‘Meat en Greet’ will take place at the Moevement youth center on Sunday, April 21. The focus is on encouraging encounters between young foreign-speaking newcomers and Lierse young people between 12 and 18 years old.

This unique event is made possible by a collaboration between the city of Lier, the youth council, the Moeve youth center, Overkop and Mondiale Werken. “With ‘Meat en Greet’ we bring young people from different backgrounds together and introduce them to local sports clubs and youth associations. The organization strives to create an inclusive and hospitable environment in which all young people feel welcome,” says Mayor Rik Verwaest (N-VA).

“The program includes various activities with a good mix of sports, culture and creativity,” Verwaest explains. “Young people can participate in creative workshops, henna painting, dance sessions, stunt scooter demonstrations and sporting activities such as football, badminton, volleyball and survival run. In the afternoon, young people can freely choose and participate in the activities that interest them.” The highlight of the ‘Meat and Greet’ is the halal kebab that is offered free of charge to all visitors.

Participation in this event is free. Pre-registration is not necessary. (HB)
