24th Edition of Open Galerie Espace Anjou Welcomes Young Tennis Talent

From April 21 to 28, the Open Galerie Espace Anjou will be in full swing on the clay courts of the Angers Tennis Club. This 24th edition once again welcomes promising young players in the making.

For a week, the yellow ball will ring even louder on the Baumette center court. From April 21 to 28, the Maine-et-Loire Departmental Tennis Committee and the Angers Tennis Club are organizing the 24th edition of the Open Galerie Espace Anjou. Labeled ITF (International Tennis Federation), the Angevin tournament represents the first level of professional tournaments, the main development circuit for young professional players. Endowed with $25,000, the winner will be awarded 20 ATP points. Last year, it was Clément Tabur who earned these points, allowing him to now be positioned 202nd in the world rankings.

“This is a unique opportunity for our young French and international hopefuls to shine and demonstrate their talent. It is through these professional tournaments like him that these competitors can climb the ladder, climb the rankings to finally become big names in the discipline”, supports Christelle Morancais, the president of the Pays de la Loire Region.

Seeds between 200th and 300th place in the world

Concerning the field, it has seeds between 200 and 300th place in the world, which promises great games on the Angevin courts. In the absence of last year’s winner, this 24th edition is intended to be relatively open. However, we find well-known names from the tournament, such as Sacha Gueymard, victorious in doubles during the last two editions, and the Spaniard Nikolas Sanchez-Izquierdo (259th), winner in singles in 2019.

The number 1 seed, Tunisian Aziz Dougga (241st) should play at the forefront. Regarding the French players involved, Alexis Gauthier (342nd), winner of the Futures tournament in Créteil last month, and Dan Added (408th), are playing the surprise card. Aged 18, the promising young tricolor Maé Malige (738th) will also be one to watch.
