Canfora reports that the Steelers are actively pursuing a trade for a wide receiver in an effort to improve their team.

According to La Canfora, the Steelers are actively trying to make a trade to improve their receiving position, even if it’s not with Aiyuk. While discussions about a specific receiver have calmed down, it appears that the Steelers are determined to find a veteran player to fill the spot opposite George Pickens through a trade.

The gap remains unfilled, despite the addition of experienced players Van Jefferson and Quez Watkins in the recent free agency period.

“Their selections of wide receivers have been exceptional. If they are not able to acquire a seasoned and ready-to-play individual, then I agree.”

In the days and weeks leading up to the 2024 NFL Draft, and possibly even during the draft, General Manager Omar Khan may take action to address any weaknesses on the team’s roster. It is evident that the Steelers are not content with their current options behind Pickens.

The Steelers have commendably been thorough in their evaluation of wide receivers prior to the draft. They have invited numerous receivers to their facility on the South Side for pre-draft visits and have also conducted formal meetings with top players at the position during the NFL Scouting Combine.

Per Audacy’s NFL insider Jason La Canfora, the Steelers are actively seeking a trade for a player in the 2024 NFL Draft.

There has been speculation about the Steelers possibly trading for a receiver, specifically San Francisco 49ers’ Brandon Aiyuk. Aiyuk is in his final year of his rookie contract and may be in line for a new contract. In March, Aiyuk caught attention when he tweeted at Steelers’ head coach Mike Tomlin, adding to the speculation about a potential fit for the impressive receiver.

The Pittsburgh Steelers made a trade, sending Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for cornerback Donte Jackson. This left a significant gap in their wide receiver position.

According to what Jason La Canfora said on the In The Huddle podcast with Brian Baldinger and Carl Dukes, it wouldn’t be surprising if the team trades for a wide receiver before the draft. This information is still uncertain and it’s possible that the trade could happen tomorrow, the Wednesday before the draft, or even during the draft itself. The team is actively trying to acquire a wide receiver and it could happen at any point leading up to the draft on Thursday.

John Lynch, the GM of the San Francisco team, put an end to any speculation of Aiyuk being traded during the NFL owner’s meetings in Orlando in March. However, it is not impossible for unexpected things to occur. If the Steelers were to pursue this move, it would have both financial and contractual implications with Aiyuk.
