10th Patagonian Ground Judo Tournament Held at Clun Ingeniero Huergo: Highlights and Winners

This Saturday on the main court of the Clun Ingeniero Huergo the “10th Patagonian Ground Judo Tournament” took place, where Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighters from the academies of the Constructores Club Social y Deportivo, FJU., and the Civil, Sports, Social and Cultural Association Argentine Union of Martial Arts CR (UAAM).

The UAAM is affiliated with the Chubutense Judo Federation, who was the organizer of the tournament, as in the last two editions that were held in Comodoro Rivadavia. Before that, the seven initial editions took place in the city of Junín de los Andes, where wrestlers from various provinces and towns in Patagonia as well as from southern Chile participated.

“On this occasion, the call was overshadowed by the acephaly that is observed in the Federation, which will regularize its situation next Saturday, April 20 in an ordinary assembly called by the same General Inspection of Justice; since assemblies have not been organized since August 2013, observing a large number of irregularities that have been reported by the association that organized this competition. Despite this, there was a tournament with very close fights, which served as experience for the different athletes who participated and seek to represent Chubut in the next national championships,” said the UAAM representatives.

The jury was made up of table officials Professor Gilda Garnica, Priscilla Appiolaza and Angel Nehuen Colina, while the fights were refereed by Professor Pablo Cosentino (the only one with South American rank in the province).

Among the most notable medalists who won gold were in the mixed promotional category (9 and 10 years old) up to 24 kg. Lara Garnica (UAAM.), up to 33 kg. Francisco Salinas (FJU.), up to 42 kg. Liam Piñeyro (UAAM.), up to 45 kg. María Victoria Peneff (UAAM.), and in more than 45 kg. Pedro Lizarraga (UAAM.). In Children “A” (11 and 12 years old) they reached the top of the podium up to 47 kg. Zoe Piñeyro (UAAM.), up to 52 kg. Lisandro Rufino (UAAM.) and Matheo Hernández (UAAM.) in more than 52 kg. In Children “B” (13 and 14 years old) they weighed up to 48 kg.

Taddeo Cuevas Cuenca (UAAM.), up to 58 kg. Bastian Mansutti (Constructores Club S. y D.), more than 58 kg. Hilario Vallejos (UAAM.) in men, and Zaira Piñeyro (UAAM.) in women.

Among the Cadet women (15 and 16 years old) the Brenda Salinas (FJU.) and Senior (Olympic category) up to 60 kg were very valuable. Franco Leonardo Luna (UAAM.), up to 66 kg. Gonzalo Silva (FJU.), up to 81 kg. Emmanuel Hannoch (UAAM.), up to 90 kg. and in more than 100 kg. Luis Hernández (UAAM.). The latter was chosen by the Organizing Commission to receive the “Elena Hebe Muñoz Cup” for the outstanding athlete of this edition of the tournament.

The “Fiorella Garnica Cup” to the team that obtained the most gold medals during the competition was in the hands of the UAAM, while second place went to FJU., and third to the Constructores Club Social y Deportivo (which made its debut in this sport).

The organization highlights the strategic support provided by the Ente Comodoro Deportes, which collaborated with the nursing service, the loan of the sports venue, the podium and other furniture, as well as the transportation of the Federation’s tatami.

Now, the organizing association is quickly preparing to hold its ordinary assembly on Sunday, April 14 at 4 p.m. (convened through the Official Gazette of Chubut) in order to elect new authorities – both in the Board of Directors and in the Review Committee of Accounts – as well as to analyze and approve the Report and the 2023 Accounting Year. This demonstrates institutional regularity and a great capacity for organization and activity, under the presidency of Professor Pablo Saúl Cosentino, who hopes to hand over to another active partner the main position of driving.
