Smart business idea: The third division soccer team 1. FC Saarbrücken sells 600 pieces of the turf from the cup coup against FC Bayern Munich. Fans and enthusiasts can purchase a piece of grass measuring around 40 by 20 centimeters for 19.03 euros, the club announced on Thursday.
The Saarlanders sensationally defeated the German record champions 2-1 in the second round of the DFB Cup at the beginning of November 2023. The city’s green department secured the pieces of the playing area in February of this year after the turf was replaced.
Several weeks ago, the city, as the owner of the Ludwigsparkstadion, and the club, which only failed in the cup semi-finals against 1. FC Kaiserslautern, agreed on the distribution of the turf to the fans. Half of the proceeds from the sale will go to a primary school and half to a non-profit institution supported by the FCS. The auction begins this Friday, and the turf parts will be distributed to fans on May 2nd and 3rd.
