Zverev, the wall that separates Alcaraz from the semifinals in Indian Wells

The German Alexander Zverev (world number 6) came back this Tuesday against the Australian Álex de Miñaur (no. 10) and will be the rival in the Indian Wells quarterfinals of Carlos Alcaraz (n.2), who will have a very demanding challenge against the German. Zverev defeated De Minaur by 5-7, 6-2 y 6-3 in two hours and 47 minutes.

Alcaraz, the current Indian Wells champion, got his ticket to the quarterfinals much faster, since He beat the Hungarian Fábián Marozsán (n.58) 6-3 and 6-3 in just one hour and 15 minutes.

Zverev is not just any rival for Alcaraz: he is the opponent who has defeated him the most times on the circuit (five). The Murcian was only able to win three of his eight matches so far. The last two times they met ended with victory for Zverev: in the quarterfinals of the last Australian Open and in the group stage of the 2023 ATP Finals. For its part, Alcaraz’s last victory against Zverev came in American lands, when he won the quarterfinals of the US Open last September.
