Zverev Advances to Next Round with Solid Performance: “I’m very happy”

Zverev only allowed himself a few mistakes. In the second set, the Hamburg player benefited from his opponent’s too long forehand shot on the first match point and celebrated moving into the next round.

“He is a difficult opponent for me, but the match was solid,” said Zverev about O’Connell, to whom he lost in Dubai in 2023: “I am very happy that I progressed in two sets because I was not the one “I’m the best first-round player.”

After a successful start to the year including reaching the semi-finals at the Australian Open in Melbourne, things have been rather sobering for Zverev at the tournaments in Los Cabos and Acapulco. In Indian Wells he has never made it past the quarter-finals. “I’ve played good matches here before, but narrowly lost a few times,” said the German.
