Zandron missed the 27th freestyle at the World Championships

Maurizio Zandron missed the top 24 free program at the World Figure Skating Championships in Montreal. The 31-year-old scored 69.59 points in the short program on Thursday with a solid performance without any major mistakes, but that was only enough for 27th place out of 40 participants. The native Italian, who performed a triple Axel and a triple Rittberger, was 3.64 points short of 24th place.

Zandron’s best World Cup result remains 17th place two years ago in Montpellier. Of the Austrian athletes in Montreal, only Olga Mikutina made it into the free skate. This is scheduled for Friday (11 p.m. CET). In the men’s category, defending champion Shoma Uno (107.72 points) and Yuma Kagiyama (106.35) gave Japan a double lead after the short program.
