On this Wednesday in February, in the middle of the school holidays, it was teeming with kimonos on the tatami mats of the Fabien Canu dojo, in Alençon (Orne).

A group of young shoots is training with Frédéric Moreau, assistant to Vadim Herbreteau. The two friends, responsible for the Judo Club Alençonnais, supervise an internship.

If the youngest learn while having fun, deep down, it’s serious. Lenzo Tamietti and Morgan Joubert, supported by the sister of the first named, Lana Tamietti, are rigorously preparing for a big event. The two boys will battle it out at the Coupe de France Minis, the French championship in the category, Saturday March 23 and Sunday March 24, in Villebon-sur-Yvette (Essonne).

Both fighters started practicing two and a half years ago. “Well, a little before, but the Covid has been there,” regrets Vadim Herbreteau. “They’re in the right car!” They are very motivated young people, who train almost every day. »

Indeed, the judokas are educated in the Fourth Year at the Nicolas-Jacques-Conté college in Sées, in a class with judo schedules. This section was created in 1985 by Jacky Rojo.

Why judo?

On the program: five workouts per week, including some days twice a day. “Not counting weekends, training courses and competitions,” adds the head of the JCA. “Some are in the French team today, others have competed in the world championships. It is a springboard to then go towards the hopeful centers, France and Insep. »

But why did you turn to this discipline? For Lenzo, it was “the state of mind, the competitions, learning holds and self-confidence” that motivated him. Morgan joins him: “I like the respect there is in this sport and the fact of always learning new techniques. This sport allows me to have more physical, mental and self-confidence, even outside of judo. »

To take part in these French championships, Lenzo Tamitti and Morgan Joubert had to qualify by making a podium at the departmental and regional championships. Lenzo (-60 kg) did not give details: first and first. Morgan (-46 kg) obtained two silver medals.

What objectives for France?

A few days before the national competition, Lenzo Tamietti is sure of himself. He’s going there to “be first” while Morgan Joubert is a bit more measured: “Make a podium!” But I always aim for the highest. »
