Young American Coco Gauff dominates at Indian Wells, reaches quarterfinals on her 20th birthday

On her 20th birthday, the world’s third-ranked Cory Goff from the USA also reached the quarterfinals of the women’s tournament on Wednesday, defeating Belgium’s Elise Mertens (WTA 28th) 6-0, 6-2, and China’s Yuan Yue (WTA 49th), who beat Russian Daria Kasatkina (WTA 12th) 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Meanwhile, the men’s singles round of 16 was swept by all the favorites on Wednesday.

The fourth-seeded Russian Daniil Medvedev (ATP 4th) defeated the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (ATP 13th) 6-4, 6-4, the seventh-ranked Holgers Roone from Denmark 2-6, 7-6 (7:2) , beat home Taylor Fritz (ATP 12th) 6-3.

Norwegian Kasper Ruud (ATP 9th) won 3-6, 7-6 7:(3), 6-4 in the match with Gael Monfils (ATP 54th), while Tommy POl (ATP 17th) from the USA won 6- 4, 6-3 defeated the Italian Luca Nardi (ATP 123rd).

The tournament will take place in Indian Wells on hard courts until March 17.
