At 16 years old, Yanis Klelly-Grousset experienced a great moment last weekend in Porec (Croatia), donning the judogi of the French Team for the first time. In a very tough competition, with competitors from 23 countries, the member of Judo Club 56 passed two rounds, before falling at the end of the suspense against the local, Nikola Hadzi-Veljkovic, pushed by a boiling room. “It was a big atmosphere. I’m happy with my fight because I saw that I could compete with him and go all the way to the golden score. But I came out frustrated because it was me who threw myself to the ground and was countered,” relates the Morbihannais, born to a Cameroonian father and a French mother.

Despite the disappointment of this elimination in the 16th, the young man took full advantage of the event, especially the fact of being confronted with foreigners. “It was interesting to face judo that was different from French judo. I shot a Bosnian, a Brazilian and a Croatian. The Brazilian was, for example, very, very strong on the ground,” continues the native of Nantes, who has progressed a lot this season. This is evidenced by his numerous podiums this season (Limoges, Nantes, Ploërmel, Dijon, Clermont-Ferrand) and his participation in the European Cup in Fuengirola (Spain), a month ago. A contested competition with the Rennes hopefuls pole, which he joined a year and a half ago. “I train every day in judo and physical preparation. I almost made the podium on each of my outings with the pole. As a result, I came third in the French results in my category (- 66 kg)”, rejoices the judoka, whose objective for the season takes place at the end of the month with the “France cadets”, in Paris. An event that he checked off at the start of the season. “I’m going there with the idea of ​​fighting well, showing my level, having a good competition. My goal will be to win,” he says.
