Xàtiva Badminton Club Dominates Autonomous League: Gold and Bronze Achieved

The Xàtiva Badminton Club has been the great dominator of the Autonomous League of Clubs, achieving gold and bronze in the competition of the Valencian Community. The club’s first team, CB Xàtiva Caixa Popular A, has been proclaimed league champion, while the second team, CB Xàtiva Caixa Popular B, took bronze. The league ended last Sunday, with the dispute of the third and final league day, to which the Setabeans already arrived as first and third classified.

The first team of Badminton Xàtiva began the final day beating CB San Fernando de València, second placed, by a resounding 0-5. In the second round of matches, CB Xàtiva-Caixa Popular A had a rest. The second team, for its part, started the day losing 1-4 against CB El Campello. The second round, against San Fernando de València, began with the Setabeans losing in the mixed doubles match, but Sarai Ramón and Vega Calatayud won the women’s doubles, tying the match, while Ximo Torres and Marcos Cimas lost in the men’s doubles , which put the Valencians ahead in the set, with 1-2. In the individual events, those from Xàtiva, forced to add two points to win, did not fail and Marcos Cimas tied the score by winning his match and Martina Molina did the same in the decisive match, beating Elena Muñoz 21-17 and 21-19.

The last matches of the Autonomous League began after 12:30 p.m., when CB Xàtiva A beat CB Manises by another resounding 0-5,with David Polop, Vicent Molina, Soraya Gandía and Nuria Martínez showing themselves relentless against their rivals. The victory reaffirmed the first position in the table for the first team of the Seta club, and Bádminton Xàtiva was proclaimed champion. For its part, CB Xàtiva B faced CB Teulada, winning 3-2 on aggregate, after adding the points from the mixed and women’s doubles and the women’s singles, where Vega Calatayud achieved the final point that gave victory to the people of Setaba. Ximo Torres was close to forcing the third set in the men’s singles, but finally lost, leaving the aggregate at 3-2 for those from Xàtiva, who finished third in their first participation in this league. In second place and runner-up in the Autonomous League was CB El Campello. The day ended with the presentation of trophies to the first classified, by the president of the Valencian Badminton Federation, Ferran Feliu.

The Xàtiva Badminton Club has evaluated the club’s participation in this edition of the Autonomous League “very positively”, highlighting that “the group of athletes from the Caixa Popular A team achieves, after several years of work and learning, this first place and with Caixa Popular B, with athletes who participated for the first time in this type of competition, a great performance that has been accompanied with a well-deserved third position.” CB Xàtiva has thanked CB Enguera and its athletes for “their work and involvement in helping us form two balanced and competitive teams and of course the Caixa Popular entity for continuing to support us season after season.”

Two medals in the Lardero TTR

On the other hand, the Xàtiva Badminton Club also achieved two medals in the TTR tournament in Lardero, in La Riojawhere the senior athlete competed Vicente Ferrer, who won a gold and a silver. In the men’s singles of the B2 category, Ferrer beat Joaquín Clavijo in the final by 21-15 and 21-8 to win the gold. He had previously beaten Sergio Juaniz in the semifinals, 21-14 and 21-11.

Silver came in the B2 men’s doubles, in which he competed alongside Alberto Pascual. They lost in the final against Manuel Acero and Santiago Martínez by 21-19 and 21-16, achieving the second metal. In the semifinals they beat Sergio Juaniz and Ángel Urra by 21-14 and 21-8.

Sports Games

CB Xàtiva also competed last weekend in the second day of the Sports Games of the Valencian Community in the Benjamin category, which was played in Enguera. The Setabe club participated with the player Aarón Fasanar, who competed in the singles and doubles events alongside Adolfo Costa from AMPA de Ayora. In doubles they won both matches played, while Aarón missed both singles matches.
