Worrisome Stay for Taiwanese Badminton Players in Paris Ahead of Olympic Games

Facts “worrying” just a few months before the Paris Olympic Games. On the occasion of the French Open, which ended on Sunday March 10, 2024, several Taiwanese badminton players traveled to the capital. But as reported The Parisian they experienced a rather tumultuous stay.

On social networks, Tai Tzu Ying, Olympic badminton vice-champion, explains that she stayed in a hotel located in the 18th arrondissement. A district “which seems a little dangerous”, according to the 29-year-old player, who was allegedly the victim of an attempted intrusion into her room in the middle of the night. To protect herself, she barricaded the door with a luggage rack.

A stolen suitcase

Other members of the Taiwanese delegation reportedly experienced the same mishap. Yang Po Han, 26th in the world in men’s doubles, would have used his rackets to create makeshift protection, according to our colleagues. In addition, a coach allegedly had his luggage stolen upon arrival at the hotel. The suitcase contained a laptop with competition data.

“We immediately took measures to strengthen the security system, not because the players were completely unsafe but only to reassure them”said Pascal Bildstein, organizer of the French Open tournament.
