Wolfsburg Coach Kovac Fired After Another Defeat: Hasenhüttl to Take Over?

“Now I’m going,” said Niko Kovac, got up and almost made his way home. The coach from VfL Wolfsburg had not yet been fired during this strange scene during the press conference after the next defeat – but the separation followed a few hours later.

Ralph Hasenhüttl is supposed to stop the Wolves’ crash, the Bild newspaper reported on Sunday afternoon. Confirmation was initially pending.

“We regret the development and believe it is necessary to give the team a new impetus in order to stabilize the situation,” said managing director Marcel Schäfer, who spoke verbally immediately after the 1:3 (1:1) against FC Augsburg had moved away from Kovac.

The bankruptcy was followed by a crisis meeting with the supervisory board; Kovac was informed of the decision on Saturday evening and officially announced on Sunday morning. The separation had already been announced in the past few weeks.

Because the factory club, which actually wants to go to Europe, has long since entered the relegation battle. Eleven games without a win – there has never been such a horror series for Lower Saxony in one season. 25 points and a goal difference of -13 are also a negative club record at this point in the season.

And so a concert of whistles echoed through the arena after the Augsburg game, as did the shouts of “Kovac out” from the angry fans. 14th place in the table is simply far too little for Wolfsburg’s high standards.
