The judoka proved to be the favorite on the first day of the 2nd Bundesliga Sport-Union Other II ultimately turned out to be a bit too big. The weakened team of the Witten newcomers still sold dearly at 3:11 as guests of last year’s group winners Judo team Holten.
“I can’t even say that I’m dissatisfied with the performance. There were some pretty close fights – the result could have been a little different,” said SUA coach Manuel Neumann. Having to face the baptism of fire with one of the top favorites was a tough nut to crack for the Witten league newcomers. And compared to the Sport-Union, the Oberhausen team was able to make full use of personnel.
Kosch and Malewany give SU Annen II a quick 2-0 lead
After all: The Ruhrstadt team got off to a great start, as Florian Kosch (-100 kg) and Tim Malewany (-73 kg) brought home their two fights quite clearly. However, these remained the only successful experiences for a long time – a long dry spell followed. Coach Manuel Neumann was always annoyed that the Annen team fell behind 5-2 at half-time. Falk Hobein (-66 kg) only gave up his duel in extra time, Andreas Altergott (-90 kg) was disqualified shortly before the end. “That was a new rule. When he tried to throw, he touched the mat with his head – that is now consistently whistled off,” said Neumann.

In the second round, the first six duels were all lost. In five of these fights the decision was made after just under a minute, only Florian Kosch went the full distance in his 100 kg comparison and could definitely have won. At the end, Andreas Altergott (-90 kg) took the third SUA point. “I am convinced that we will perform completely differently on the next day of the fight. We belong in this league and can get involved,” said Neumann’s clear statement.
