LE SCAN SPORT- The former PSG player as well as other players, retired or still active, have decided to take legal action against the collectible card company because they feel wronged regarding their image rights.

It’s no secret that footballers earn a very good living. But even with contracts worth several million euros a year, some are still looking for ways to claim a little more money where they can. This is the reason why a list of players, including Jérôme Rothen, Bruno Ecuele-Manga and Jérémy Doku, decided to file a complaint, stipulating that they never gave their authorization to appear in the albums from the Italian brand, Panini.

The case broke out in 2021 and was dismissed due to statute of limitations. Accusing the UNFP and the Italian brand of making millions of euros at the expense of the players, the lawyer for the players who filed the complaint is therefore demanding between 50,000 and 500,000 euros in damages.

The UNFP responded that an agreement was signed in 1997 with the company that manufactures the stickers and since then all players receive the same amount each year, between 200 and 300 euros. The judges of the Paris Court must now rule on this question of image rights.
