When even Vertonghen shows pity… Anderlecht are steamrolling over pitiful RWDM

How much easier can it be? A bus ride of less than ten minutes. Change clothes, warm up, start the match and be sure of winning 20 minutes later. The Brussels derby between RWDM and Anderlecht was never really a match. RWDM was nowhere, Anderlecht benefited… Health walk!

Wasn’t the Frenchman Bruno Irles going to set up an organization at RWDM? Isn’t that what he was attracted to after the departure of Claudio Caçapa? Well, there was little sign of that. That defense of the people of Molenbeek… disastrous. This also gets you into trouble against Challenger Pro League teams.

And there is a real chance that it will come to that. What RWDM showed defensively against Anderlecht was nothing short of disastrous. After 11 minutes, the Purple & White got a corner kick. Dreyer ran out of the suit to ask for the ball and no one even thought about following.

Judge a judge

He laid off for Stroeykens – who was also allowed to play freely – and Vertonghen just had to run in the ball. Even the cadets are doing better. Five minutes later, goalkeeper Defourny felt he had to test his defense again and gave the ball to Dreyer.

The Dane – who everyone knows only has a left foot – was allowed to put the ball well, look and shoot freely into the goal. 0-2 and the match was over before it had even started. What happened behind the scenes in the Edmond Machtens Stadium this season… you could also write a book about that.

Vertonghen even felt sorry

Those winter transfers offer no added value. On the half hour it was 0-3 after Sousa made an alleged foul on Vertonghen. Extremely stupid, because Vertonghen was almost out of the sixteen. But the defender himself seemed to indicate that no mistake had been made. It’s bad when the opponent already shows pity…

But Laforge pointed relentlessly at the spot and the VAR proved him right. This wasn’t even a practice match. Hopefully for Anderlecht they will get more opposition from Zulte Waregem just before the play-offs. Although it’s really not that difficult. The freestyle ball magician who performed before the match would have achieved more.

Energy saving

The second half was a waste of time. Anderlecht easily created a handful of chances, but were unable to convert them. RWDM had one good one for Camara, but Schmeichel also stood firm.

Anderlecht played football with the handbrake on for the entire second half. The victory was never in danger and they apparently did not want to waste much energy anymore. A practice match like that is boring if there are no more goals…
