what is the tool that dries the fields of the Masters 1000 in Miami in a flash – Corriere.it

a machine that can remove approximately 95% of water from the surface of the field with a single pass

The rain hindered the Masters 1000 in Miami and Jannik Sinner (and Andrea Vavassori, defeated by the South Tyrolean in two sets in the all-Italian derby) know something about it. So all the races scheduled in the last 24 hours were postponed due to adverse weather conditions which made the fields impassable.

To fix them, special equipment was used, used by the Miami Open staff, who worked tirelessly to allow the tennis players to play and avoid further slippages. And so the images have captured a particular instrument used to remove water from the fields: it is the Vaptr Rollr, an indispensable tool to use when water makes everything impracticable.

But how does it work? a machine that can remove approximately 95% of water from the surface of the court with a single pass, minimizing downtime as happened at the Miami Open. Naturally, as you can see from the images, it is more efficient than a spatula which would only move the puddles from one side to the other. It has the shape of a lawnmower and is passed over the field almost as if it were really used to cut the lawn. Instead, it is used to dry the soil in a single pass, making it usable in a very short time. an invention patented in 2019 by Justin Stewart, a baseball player, tired of having to stop due to rain. Thus the Vaptr collects and absorbs water, leaving the field dry. And effectively saving the Miami Open.
