The coach of Atlético de Madrid, Diego Pablo Simeone, confessed that they are “weaker than a month ago” in terms of forcefulness in the areas, confident in their ability to improve, after falling (0-3) this Sunday against FC Barcelona.
“We had a good first half, we had Barrios’ and Morata’s. They scored Joao’s goal and in the second half, the second goal took us out of the game. We tried to equalize it and we couldn’t have a good game. They were better , they forcefully took advantage of their chances,” he said at a press conference.
The red and white coach explained his team’s decline, despite advancing to the quarterfinals of the Champions League this week, and pointed to the primary objective of recovering the ‘Top 4’ of the league table. “After we won the League, every year after that, it was always difficult for us. When you compete in the three tournaments, it is not so easy. You have to improve because the others also improve. The group knows what the first objective is year after year years and we will work accordingly to search for it,” he stated.
“Forcefulness gives you the possibility of being more competitive and today we are weaker than a month ago. Until the Athletic game at home, in the semifinal, was where the not-so-good moment began a little,” he added.
“We lacked precision. We were defending in an orderly manner. They were forceful, Morata was able to equalize before the break. There are goals that hurt you a lot and the second goal was done to get our energy out. The second goal hurt us a lot,” he concluded.
