Fifteenth on the grid in Australia with Alpine, Esteban Ocon is convinced that the French team is progressing after a catastrophic start to the season.

“We are moving in the right direction, but we cannot be satisfied with the result and our current situation. The car was the best since the start of the season and we made the most of what we could. I pushed the limits today – and then some – by clipping the wall in the last corner on my first run in Q1. I was lucky not to have any damage and we were able to turn around quickly. We kept pushing until the end and managed to qualify for the next part of qualifying. It was really the maximum today, but we are aware that we still need to find performance to take the next step. We’ve seen that a lot can happen here in racing, and as we’ve seen in the past, if you stay out of trouble, you can seize opportunities to move up the pack,” explained the French driver after qualifying this Saturday.
