Washington Commanders Sign Running Back Austin Ekeler to Two-Year, $11.43 Million Deal

The Washington Commanders have grabbed attention today by making official the agreement of running back Austin Ekeler, from the Los Angeles Chargers; after reaching a two-year agreement in exchange for a figure of around $11.43 million, if certain returns are met.

Reports detail that Ekeler will get $4.82 million in his first year with the Commanders; Breaking down the amount, there is a bonus of 3 million and 1.5 million in incentives for the season.

The running back had been one of the power elements in the ‘Bolt up’ offense, registering 38 touchdowns, with 2021 and 2022 being his most productive seasons. This last season he only finished with six touchdowns and an average of 3.5 yards per carry in 14 games played.

Ekeler will be reunited with Anthony Lynn, who is currently the Commanders’ running backs coach; and was head coach of the Chargers from 2017 to 2020. In total, Ekeler played seven seasons with the Chargers, surpassing 1,000 yards from scrimmage four times and led the NFL in touchdowns twice.
