Victor Wembanyama Leads Spurs to Exciting Overtime Victory Against Nets

Led by an extraordinary Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs taste victory against the Nets. 122-115 success for San Antonio after overtime.

For the detailed stats of Wemby’s latest madness, it’s here.

For this new (and last) visit to Austin this season, the Spurs spoiled their audience with a nail-biting victory against the back-to-back Nets who were out of breath. As is often the case with spurs, victory rhymes with Victor Wembanyama and the Frenchman was simply incredible in guiding his team to success. 33 points, 15 rebounds, 7 assists but also 7 blocks!

There are some very high class actions (above) but also a crucial role in money time and overtime (13 points in total over these two periods + enormous defense). Hindered in the first half by the good defensive activity of Nic Claxton, Wemby increased the intensity during the second half, managing to find his positions near the circle to boost his efficiency (14/26 shooting last night). Defensively, things are not moving, the big Vic was a constant deterrent. There are the counterattacks of course, including a particularly decisive one at the end of extra time, there is also the presence which makes many attackers turn around, Dennis Schröder in particular.

Wembanyama did the numbers, Wembanyama was hyper clutch on both ends of the court. Defensive lock, and the right baskets at the right time while taking responsibility. A very big match, one more for a little guy who is only 20 years old but who already gives the impression of having the equipment in store to put on crazy matches every night. Gregg Popovich even laughed at a press conference when he said that the wines in his cellar were older than Victor Wembanyama. In any case, this French vintage has (very) good days ahead of it.
