Bundesliga soccer club VfB Stuttgart has extended the contract with head coach Sebastian Hoeneß early. The contract, which originally ended in 2025, is now valid until June 30, 2027, as the Swabians announced on Friday. “I can say it without further ado: the early extension of the contract with Sebastian Hoeneß is as important for our further sporting development as no other personnel in the club at the moment,” said sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth. Those responsible had previously managed to extend the contracts of sought-after players such as Chris Führich and Waldemar Anton.
Most recently, according to media reports, Hoeneß was also considered a candidate to succeed Thomas Tuchel at FC Bayern Munich. Hoeneß himself recently responded cautiously to the rumors. The 41-year-old said he sees it as “confirmation” of the good work done by the people of Stuttgart. But: “It’s speculation, nothing more.” He has “no thoughts that the journey with VfB will be over at the end of the season.”
Big meaning
Hoeneß took over on the Neckar at the beginning of April 2023 and developed the Stuttgart team from almost relegated to Champions League aspirants. Before the 25th matchday, on which VfB meets 1. FC Union Berlin this Friday evening (8.30 p.m./DAZN), the club is in third place with 50 points.

“Together we managed to lead VfB on the right path. Our goal must be to take this path sustainably in order to permanently establish VfB in the top half of the table again,” said Hoeneß, whose assistant coach David Krecidlo also agreed to a contract extension for another two years.
