Vettel does not rule out resigning

Four-time German Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel, who retired at the end of 2022, still does not rule out retiring. “Of course you think about it and flirt with it. But when I made the decision back then, I had several reasons for it,” said Vettel in an interview published on Wednesday by the TV channels RTL and ntv. Of course there are certain things “that I miss,” said the world champion from 2010 to 2013.

At the moment, however, he has not reached the point where he wants to return to the premier class of motorsport. The enormous time commitment with at least 24 races also plays a role. “Of course, I am still in contact with people who have accompanied me indirectly or directly over the last 17 years,” explained the 36-year-old. “And yes, I still have a little something planned, hopefully as part of Formula 1 and also this year,” said the father of three children, without being more specific: “It remains to be seen whether that will take place.”

Most recently, the Hessian was also in contact with Mercedes Motorsport Director Toto Wolff. “And of course we also talked about the fact that a lot is happening at Mercedes, but not specifically about the fact that I could take the place,” said Vettel when asked about the cockpit being vacated by the Silver Arrows. Record world champion Lewis Hamilton is moving to Ferrari in 2025, and the German factory team has not yet signed a successor for the Brit.
