The viewing figures of the football talk show presented by Wilfred Genee Veronica Offside keep declining, as Tina Nijkamp reveals. Although Clarence Seedorf was a guest last Monday, the program was also broadcast at a new time for the first time; at 10:30 p.m., right after the much more popular one Today Inside.
Nijkamp was in the past program director at SBS and is now considered the viewing figures guru of the Netherlands. While the KijkOnderzoek Foundation only comes up with the official numbers a week after the date, Nijkamp presents them the next morning. Monday evening’s figures do not lie: “Phew. The new time does Veronica Offside the totals will drop even further: only 123,000 viewers,” Nijkamp wrote on Tuesday morning. Instagram stories.

“That’s only a tenth of Today Inside,” the ratings guru puts that number into perspective. “These are figures that Genee has not had for a very long time. Last week the show at 8:30 p.m. reached 165,000. Also far too few, of course,” continues Nijkamp, who has often expressed her concerns about the continued existence of the talk show. As soon as the sponsor drops out or, for example, switches to De Oranjezondag by Hélène Hendriks, the program that Genee has been making every Monday evening since 2022 could soon end, the former channel boss speculates.
Bright spot
Yet Nijkamp also mentions a small bright spot for Genee: “In the age category 25-54 years, Veronica Offside still a market share of 7.9 percent,” it reads. “That still offers hope, because last week it was 2.7 percent.” That difference (fewer viewers, but a larger market share) can be explained by the fact that fewer people watch TV later in the evening. However, the dark clouds continue to gather above Genee’s head and OffsideNijkamp concludes: “Is it because of De Oranjezondag? Is it because there was no regular football this weekend? In any case: ratings concerns for Wilfred.”
