“VEF Riga” defeats “Prometey” team for the first time

“VEF Rīga” won in the Olympic center in Rīga as a home team with the result 83:76 (26:29, 15:10, 16:19, 26:18).

Shaun Pipes stood out for the Latvian champions with 21 points, Gregory Whittington had 18 points and seven rebounds, while Jaizek Lotij scored 15 points, 14 of them in the second half, and added four assists. Dairis Bertāns had ten points each and Māris Gulbis, who won the game, had seven rebounds.

Ronald March scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the opponents.

“VEF Rīga” with 20 victories in 25 games occupies the third place in the tournament table behind “Prometey” who won 22 victories, while “Kalev”/”Cramo” of Tallinn is the leader with a balance of 23-1.

In addition to the Riga-based Ukrainian team Slobojanskas “Prometey” in the LIBL this season, “VEF Rīga”, “Ventspils”, “Liepāja”, “Ogre”, “University of Latvia”, “Valmiera Glass”/”Vidzemes Augstskola” and “Rīgas Zeļļi” are competing. The best men’s basketball clubs of Latvia and Estonia played in the joint championship for the first time in the 2019 season, when 15 teams participated in the competition. “Ventspils” basketball players became the first winners of the league in the final four tournament.

Last season, in the final of the “Final 4” tournament, the basketball players of Slobojanska “Prometey” became the champions.
