Valencia Basket-Movistar Estudiantes, first semi-final of the Queen’s Cup

Raquel Carrera injured her knee at the start of the tournament in Huelva

MADRID, 21 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Valencia Basket and Movistar Estudiantes met this Thursday in the first semifinal of the Queen’s Cup, which is being played at the Carolina Marín Sports Palace in Huelva, after beating IDK Euskotren (63-55) and Spar Girona (49-72).

In the duel that opened the Cup in Huelva, Valencia Basket fulfilled its favoritism by beating IDK Euskotren, but regretted the possible knee injury of Raquel Carrera. The Basque team did not arrive at the cup event in a good moment or results and the League leader did not forgive in its debut.

The ‘taronja’ team broke the game in the second quarter (20-11), where Carrera suffered a spectacular fall that took him out of the match. Valencia maintained a good defense to keep the lead despite the last quarter of San Sebastian pride. Alina Iagupova and Queralt Casas were the best of the match.

Meanwhile, Estudiantes surprised Spar Girona to advance to the semifinals for the first time in their history. The Madrid team had a great performance from Marina Whittle (17 points) and Gracia Alonso de Armiño, while the Catalans suffered the significant losses of Regan Magarity, in the previous round, and Irati Etxarri.

Marianna Tolo was the best in the match, but she could not avoid the revenge of an ‘Estu’ who had lost the cup history with Girona in 2020 and 2021, although she came with a good dose of confidence from having won at the Pavello Fontajau in the League .
