Vadlau/Mähr in ninth place at the 470cc World Championship

Lara Vadlau/Lukas Mähr improved to ninth place at the World Sailing Championships in the Olympic 470 class off Palma de Mallorca on Thursday. The Austrian duo finished 16th and 8th in the first two races of the gold fleet, improving by one place. 16th place is Vadlau/Mähr’s worst result so far and is currently considered a discarded result.

“First day in the Goldfleet, everyone is literally sailing with a knife between their teeth. It’s extreme, you can’t leave an inch of space or you’ll be passed through. So far we haven’t been able to fully exploit our strengths – we want to change that in the next few days,” explained Vadlau. Four races still have to be sailed in the final series before the World Championships are decided on Sunday with the medal race of the best ten boats.
