Union Saint-Gilloise Secures Third Consecutive Championship Victory

The Union achieved a third consecutive success in the championship by winning at Oud-Heverlee Louvain (0-2) during the 28th day of the Jupiler Pro League on Saturday evening.

In the provisional ranking, the people of Brussels consolidate their leadership position (68 points) while the Louvanists remain in 13th place, i.e. in the red zone (26 points). Guaranteed to finish the classic phase of the championship in 1st place, the Union is therefore certain to play in the European Cup next season.

After half an hour of play, Union Saint-Gilloise opened the scoring. After a deflection of a ball from a corner, Ross Sykes threw himself at the far post to cut the latter’s trajectory and hit the mark. The goal took a long time to be validated since the VAR had to determine whether or not there was offside in the action (29th, 0-1).

In the second half, Casper Terho thought he would double the Union’s lead with a very powerful shot into the roof of the goal but the linesman signaled the player offside at the time of the pass (58th).

The Finn was finally decisive since following a great collective action, he subtly deflected Gustaf Nilsson’s shot into the Louvanist net (74th, 0-2).
