UNC Quarterback Drake Maye Responds to Chris Simms’ Ranking in Latest NFL Draft Analysis

UNC quarterback Drake Maye provided his thoughts on NBC Sports NFL/college football analyst Chris Simms ranking him sixth overall among this year’s draft-eligible quarterbacks.

Simms’ analysis goes against the consensus on Maye, who ranks second overall (and second among quarterbacks, behind USC’s Caleb Williams) on the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board.

The latest B/R NFL Scouting Department mock draft has Maye going No. 2 overall to the Washington Commanders. Maye also ranks third among all draft prospects and first among signal-callers on the B/R big board.

Simms has spoken about his feelings on Maye, calling out the positives while claiming that he still has a ways to go:

Of course, no one really knows how these quarterbacks will develop. Maybe Maye will turn out to be a superstar, or maybe others more commonly ranked below him right now will pan out better.

What we do know, though, is that it appears Williams stands above the rest, and that it really seems all but certain that he’s going to be a Chicago Bear at this point with rumblings of Justin Fields trade rumors consistently floating out there.

People are going to have their opinions on who’s next, whether it be the most common No. 2 in Maye, the Heisman Trophy winner in LSU’s Jayden Daniels or even Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy, who seems to be flying up draft boards every day.

We’ll see how NFL teams feel soon enough, though, when the draft begins on April 25.
